Quaint and authentic
Discover the Reschen Pass holiday area!
A dream holiday come true – a place so quaint, secluded and authentic. A cosy holiday apartment in a natural paradise full of warm, friendly people who welcome their guests with heartfelt hospitality. An informal, homely retreat and a rich natural and cultural heritage all around – an atmosphere as sunny as the Vinschgau valley itself!
Weather
The Reschen Pass holiday area is situated in a cold temperate zone, where sunny skies alternate with generous precipitation, making this a sun-kissed and snow-sure area at the same time – the perfect holiday destination in both summer and winter!
Folk and folklore
The Reschen area is a borderland with unique geographical and cultural features that have contributed significantly to shaping its community and traditions. Typical customs shared throughout South Tyrol are also deeply rooted here. Traditions such as the Scheibenschlagen, the Krampus parades and the Sacred Heart fires are a few examples of this. The Oculus association aims at introducing interested visitors to the past and present of the historic fortifications built on the Reschen Pass (bunkers and the tank barrier of Plamort).

Castles and fortresses
The iconic tower sunk in Lake Reschen, the history of which is still much felt by the locals, is impressively brought to life in the Alt Graun Museum. Other local attractions worth a visit include Castle Naudersberg, a medieval castle that used to be the seat of the High Court until 1919, Castle Fürstenburg in the hamlet of Burgeis – which now hosts the local school of agriculture and forestry – and Castle Churburg, probably one of the best-preserved castles in South Tyrol, which towers at the entrance to the Matscher valley near Schluderns and is home to the world’s largest private armoury.
Museums
The collection at Castle Churburg is not the only cultural attraction in the area: other museums worth a visit include the Alt Graun Museum with its photographic exhibition of the lake damming and a collection of sacral objects, and Reinhold Messner’s MMM Ortles museum in Sulden, situated an hour’s drive from Sonnenhof, which was developed underground and is dedicated to the theme of mountains and ice.
