in the upper Vinschgau valley – a holiday straight from the fairy tale books
The sun is shining in the bright blue sky, its warm rays tickling your nose as you feel like a child again, carefree and full of joy. Spending a summer holiday here in the upper Vinschgau valley is a regenerating experience that invigorates the body, refreshes the mind and soothes the spirit with an authentic sense of wonder. Are you up for a challenge? Take your pick: the Alps and their king, Mt. Ortler, are waiting for you!
Lace up your trekking boots…
Long hikes and mountain tours: the Reschen Pass offers plenty of choice for those who like to wander, with everything from summit climbs to themed trails. Mt. Ortler, known locally as “King Ortler”, provides experienced mountaineers with a worthy challenge, while the legendary Mt. Weißkugel in the idyllic Langtauferer valley steals hearts with views of unsurpassed beauty. Unspoilt nature, fresh mountain air, a 200-kilometre network of high-altitude trails, panoramic footpaths and themed paths and even a glacier at your disposal… what more could you ask for? If the answer is “a mild climate to make it all more enjoyable”… we’ve got that covered, too!
Recommended tours for your summer holiday:
Cycling in the upper Vinschgau valley
Whether you are an experienced downhill fiend or an amateur cyclist, you will be spoilt for choice with 350 kilometres of cycle paths and MTB trails at your disposal. Especially cool: the 3-country enduro trails, 5 mountain railways and 25 single trails on 52 kilometres on the border between Italy, Austria and Switzerland.
Kite surfing has become popular here in the Reschen Pass holiday area, no doubt thanks to the perfect wind and water conditions that make this area a real Mecca for kiters from all over Europe – including beginners, who find here a suitable environment for learning the ropes of this increasingly trendy sport.
The “lake plateau” – a fisherman’s paradise
With a surface area of 90 hectares, the Haider lake has made a name for itself as a fishing hotspot – and the best whitefish reserve in the Alps. We are happy to provide detailed information on how to obtain the necessary fishing permit and daily passes for both Lake Reschen and the Haider lake.
A stone’s throw from your Sonnenhof holiday apartment can be found the only year-round archery course in the whole Vinschgau valley. It is situated in the Talaiwald, a larch forest with its own distinctive charm. Combined with exciting family-friendly facilities – consisting of 28 stations with a wide variety of animal-shaped targets, from capercaillies to bears – it makes for a unique experience.
